Nous avons passé les jours suivants dans la péninsule de Coromandel, à l'est d'Auckland. C'est un coin absolument magnifique, où la mer entoure les montagnes. Nous en avons fait le tour sur une petite route sinueuse, mais offrant des vues à couper le souffle, en s'arrêtant pour goûter la gastronomie locale dans un petit shack à huîtres, et sommes enfin arrivés à notre superbe chalet à Hahei. Pendant notre séjour, nous avons réussi à prendre ça mollo (i.e., les enfants ont fait une sieste au chalet pendant qu'on lisait sur la galerie!), tout en réussissant à visiter toutes les attractions locales.
Nous avons creuser notre propre spa sur la Hot Water Beach -avec quelques centaines d'autres touristes- (une partie de cette plage se situe sur une source d'eau chaude géothermique, qui devient accessible en creusant un trou peu profond à marée basse), et avons marché jusqu'à Cathedral Cove, une réserve marine comprenant une arche naturelle reliant deux petites baies.
Notre séjour à Coromandel fût à la fois superbe et divertissant. De l'eau chaude, des fruits de mer, des paysages à couper le souffle, du soleil et des enfants heureux; quoi demander de plus?!

Our next days were spent in the Coromandel Peninsula, east of Auckland. It's a gorgeous area, where the ocean surrounds the mountains. We drove through stunning and winding country roads, tasted the local gastronomy at an oyster shack, and made it to our beautiful cottage in Hahei. During our stay, we managed to take it easy (i.e., have the kids nap at the cottage while we read on the deck!), while seeing all the main sights in the area.
We dug our private little spa on Hot Water Beach -along with a couple hundreds other tourists- (part of the beach sits on a natural hot spring which can be access by digging a shallow hole at low tide), and hiked to Cathedral Cove, a marine reserve named after the natural arch located there.
Our days in the Coromandel were both fun and gorgeous. Hot waters, good seafood, beautiful sights, sunshine and happy kids, what's not to like?!
